A package arrived here Monday, with his name on it.

We only told him was that it was something very special, and that he had been specifically chosen to receive it. I knew what it was, but thought I must be dreaming. And when he saw the picture on the front of the box...
His look of confusion and disbelief matched my own.

But there it was. And it is real. Somehow of all the deserving children who were nominated to receive this, Autism Care Team chose him (and four others).
We are blessed.

I can't even begin to imagine how this is going to change his life. It's a motivator, a reward. It will calm when anxiety is too much. It will be a positive distraction when all else fails. And more.
Already it's been so interesting to watch how he reacts to this device.

I should really have something clever and interesting to say about all this, but I'm still just in awe. I mean, why him? Why us? And knowing the background of why this charity was formed, I'm so stunned that this flood of encouragement and support has rolled all the way down to us.
Our struggle doesn't feel as lonely.

Oh I'm so happy for you and your son! He was chosen because it was meant to be. Love the look he gives when holding it up and looking at the camera. He looks happy and proud.
Very interesting to me that an ipad "will calm when anxiety is too much". I always think of electronics as extremely over-stimulating. I have a child that can't handle too much.
Do they have special aps for autism? Is there something with the disorder that causes an opposite reaction (calm instead of hyper) with electronics? I am curious as to how the ipad is used as a tool with autistic children.
I have two autistic nephews. One severe, one mild. I'm always intrigued to find out more about how to help them.
Thanks for sharing such a happy moment. Very sweet. And congrats!
The calming apps really are (even for me). The device is so simple, the fact that it doesn't have a mouse or keyboard doesn't make it intimidating or over-stimulating like other electronics. There are a lot of apps aimed at kids on the spectrum. It's so fascinating!
I, too, never realized until earlier this month that autistic kids could benefit from iPads. I watched a news article on it, and was amazed at how the most over the top kid was given one to use, and was almost immediately able to settle down, and even interact with the teacher, through using the device. Bravo, says I! (Even if I still don't quite know what to make of the thing...)

How awesome for your family!
Woohoo! iPads working well for autism is something intriguing that I hadn't heard of either, but it sounds pretty exciting. You can't argue w/ something that works. :-) And your son seems very deserving. Enjoy!!
How awesome for him!! (and you, of course!)
I'm so incredibly happy for you and your son!!!
So which app helps to relax the anxiety. I bet Anthony could benefit from it!
And you are definitely not alone. hugs! :)
I love the shot of him when he sees the picture on the box.
Really awesome. :D
That brought tears to my eyes. Yay for all of you!
I think I saw the same news program Cat did. It's amazing how beneficial these things are for kids with challenges like your son's. As challenging as he is for you to deal with, it has to be frustrating for him, too. I remember what we went through with my son and his only issue was ADD. I'm so happy for you all. Please keep us posted on the creative ways he comes up with to use the thing.
I had never heard of this either! I will spread the word. Hooray for you and for him!
I am so happy for you both! What a blessing. And this photo series is very sweet.
