Serene

Last weekend we enjoyed some unbelievably gorgeous weather for this time of year. Like, short-sleeve-shirt not-even-a-breeze gorgeous weather. And although our daylight is shrinking day by day at an alarming rate, it means our late afternoon hours are saturated with that amazing light.

But not only was the weather perfect, and the light fabulous...

our Red rooster didn't bother us even once, and the kids dug in their sand-paraboloid with complete and utter joy.

Dare I also say the moisture content of the sand couldn't have been better? It's true.

But if I've learned anything as a mom, I've learned this: beautiful serene moments like these are, truly, only fleeting moments. As I lay there in the grass shooting my happy kids bathed in my favorite kind of light with my piece-o-crap Rebel, I knew. I knew the clock was ticking.

And the micro-second I turned my head?

The little Bean ran.

She ran far far away.

Thank you Lord, for barbed wire fences that have seen much better days, yet still do a fine job of slowing the escape of any semi-domesticated critters.

Great post. It makes me chuckle how your kids don't even seem to notice that you're laying and crouching in the grass photographing them like a papparazzi (sp?? - not taking the time to dictionary.com that one) - they're just so used to it!

And those quiet moments where everybody is happy and not fighting....sigh....they do the heart good!

I really love that late day sun this time of year. Unfortunately, by the time I leave work, it's nearly gone. :(

I love love LOVE how your voice was so calm and peaceful and then you said, "As I lay there in the perfect light and my piece of crap Rebel...."

I LOVE that amazing light. Up here... far in the north... it goes by so quickly now. And it's cold. I'm planning on getting some good photos tomorrow. Hopefully there will be moments as gorgeous as these to capture. More quickly fleeting moments... the serene ones. ;)

Every single picture is amazing. And your "ex" did a fantastic job for you. Even though you still had to dump him. The very last shot is my favorite though. It is soft, very well lit, and completely focused on little bean. It is the perfect picture. Kudos! Now tell me the details on the picture so I can try it out. ;)

Amazing captures! And I agree even rickety barb wire fences are helpful in keeping little ones from escaping!
