Cheating for a scavenger hunt

I had decided to join Ashley's scavenger hunt this week before I saw the list of items. And there it was. The self portrait. I told Ashley it was fate. She told me to use one from my archives. It sounded like a good idea to me. Why be creative when I can just be lazy?

1. Self portrait

Everyone seemed so fascinated with this one. If you're curious, I explained how I got this shot HERE.

But I really like this one. Mostly just because I feel like such a rebel.

I'm rather intrigued and obsessed with the process of taking self portraits. It's like opening a jar full of monkeys (or opening the door to the chicken coop). You just never know what's going to happen.

2. Handmade

Great Grandma F. made hats for everyone. It brought her much joy. She made this one for our little Bean. We didn't know she was going to be a girl, but apparently Grandma did. She passed away a month before the Bean was born.

3. Orange
marshall

All he wanted was some lovin'. All I wanted was to keep him more than a foot and a half away from me for just a few seconds so I could get this shot. Prior to that, we had a little commotion. I told him it wasn't classy to steal bread from the chickens and then smack them when they tried to take it back. Then again, chickens are thieves too. Maybe it was good for them.

I did not add a vignette to that photo. Approximately 2.7 seconds later it began to snow.

4. Candle

Epic FAIL! I wasted how much of my life trying to get a decent photo of a candle? I'm just going to pretend this wasn't on the list.

5. Traffic signals or signs
sign

Some very odd things have been left here by previous residents: wedding photographs in the basement, pheasant in the freezer, a gigantic satellite dish in a tree row, a human foot buried in the backyard, a barn cat (see above). And some sort of road construction or detour sign, or at least part of it.

Orange is awesome! That's my favorite pic in this batch.

About the human foot buried in the backyard... seriously? Was it a crime? Or an old burial ground? My curiosity is incredibly piqued.

Love both those selfies, but the second is my fave.

Love all your work!

Great shots! The handmade hat is so pretty, how sweet that Great Grandma somehow knew that you would have a girl!

The story about the orange cat was just too funny; at least he wasn’t stealing chickens!

Now the foot find was not as funny.

Fantastic shots! I'm assuming all but the first two were taken with the new 5D?!

Cool angle on the sign. Now, what about that foot? I think I might have had to move...but I'm easily freaked out by that sort of thing. Not that that sort of thing has ever happened to me. I'm just sayin'...

Just like everyone else has said, that cat shot is fantastic! I also love how you love the process of self-portraiting. I totally don't, so it's fascinating and makes me smile when people dare to go where I don't! GREAT :)

I love the style of your photos. The cat photo-wow. I understand the keeping the cat at a distance...I miss many "cute" photos when my cat gets up an moves a moment too soon.
Beautiful takes and fun commentary.

Ok, I seriously loved this post. The pictures are awesome, but more than that...I love your writing.
The combination of fun/awesome/interesting/touching/you-insert-descriptive-word-here photos and excellent writing makes for an awesome blog. It takes a lot to entertain me. Thanks for this. :-)
