Worldwide Photo Walk

Saturday I took part in the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk.

Honestly, I was a bit nervous as I drove there, but I've been working hard on my courage. I've taken my camera to the grocery store, not only once, but twice. I no longer care, at all, what people think when I grab my faithful camera and jump up on a chair, or lie flat on the ground to get the shot. And that is a really huge achievement for me. Perhaps it also means I'm old? I've practiced (I have a very large trash can), and learned (and still have so much more to learn). But as I stepped out of my car after the nearly two hour drive, I put my chin up and grinned, because I knew I could knock that photographic ball out of the park.

At least, I was going to try.

The Photo Walk turned out to be a very good thing. I met some fun people, got my shoes soaking wet, took some pictures... but the very best thing? I spent nearly an entire day off on an adventure that was all my own.

It was refreshing. It was exactly what I needed.

Here are some of my favorite photographs from the walk. I need to submit one for judging. I'm almost sure which one it will be.

Go ahead and confuse me. Which one do you like best, and why?

This one lends itself well to black & white. Lots of contrast.

I'm loving the texture of the out of focus fence in the background on this one.

And this... is just so very dreamy.

And yes, yes I am obsessed with shallow depth of field, thankyouverymuch.

oooh... I like the master lock shot. What is the first picture? Is that bad to ask? I really like it!

All of your shots are beautiful. I'm glad you had fun!

Oh man, this is tough! I don't know if I can decide! I love the tent top in red, and the dreamy tree, and the lock, and the sidewalk, too! Did that help you out at all! Did I even pick the one you want to submit???

I like adventures all of my own, too.

Hmmmm which one... I love the peacock! And the sidewalk (great idea) and the dreamy picture. The one I kept going back to was the light in the dreamy picture. I really loved that one.

These are great but I love the peacock the most - the focus, the color, it draws me in.

I like the key. It looks a bit battered, a bit bruised, a bit worn, but still it has some pretty good color left and is holding things together like it is designed to do. Not a very photographic reason to like the picture :) but I think they're all great pictures. I just seemed to resonate with some meaning behind the key one most. Very cool.

I like the first one. I can't tell what it is, but I like the color, the texture, the softness, the mystery.

Hmmm... my favs are the first one (what is that??), the peacock, the sidewalk and the lock.

Very, very cool.

I have a couple of Scott's books. Would *totally* have loved to go on that walk! :D

How fun! I really LOVE the peacock. Just a perfect shot with the shallow DOF, the colors pop and the subject is so sharp!

that sounds like so much fun! i need to gain some of your courage. I still feel silly sometimes when I am getting certain shots when I am out in public...i am working on that! This is a hard call because there are so many great shots here...but I have to say the peacock. It just really grabs my attention. Its a fabulous shot!

Very cool Jess! You have some awesome pics! The best part though, is your little adventure ON YOUR OWN!!! What a blessing!

I too am obsessed with narrow DoF shots. I love the one of the lock!

Thanks for all the love everyone!

I decided to go with the peacock. Would you believe his iridescent blue areas overexpose in blue and underexpose in red? The camera sees light so much differently than we do.
