I come to visit my beautiful green things.
July is the magic month, the time when my little green things become lush and lovely.
The potatoes are starting to flower. That means if I gently reach beneath them, I would find perfect small new potatoes. It's addictive, pulling those little jewels out of the ground with my bare hands. You have no idea.
And when I do, I'll have garden dirt under my nails for at least a week.

I instantly like people with garden dirt under their nails.
Gardening teaches patience.

Our new bed of asparagus is doing exactly what it should. The growth on top is feeding the baby crowns below, giving them the strength to make it through our harsh winter. In a few years they'll be strong enough to survive the harvest of some of the first shoots that grow in early spring.
Corn should be knee-high by the fourth of July? Well, we're doing better than the ankle-high we had last year at this time. Deceiving angle, isn't it?

When sweet corn is harvested, it immediately begins to convert it's sugars to starch. There is nothing like grabbing some ripe ears, husking them right there in the garden and then racing back to the house to a pot of boiling water that is ready and waiting.
Look what I found!
Cilantro!

I thought it looked suspiciously like something when I was weeding. I wasn't sure what kind of something it was, so I let it be. Patience is a virtue.
I love the quiet calm and repetitive motion of hand weeding. It's my time. My time when no children are yelling, "Mommy wipe my butt!". My time to ponder on the mysteries of life, such as the reasons why my Red rooster attacked my mother-in-law.
Gardening forgives, giving me a new chance every year.
And yet, this gardener wonders how many chances that Red rooster should have. Right now, he's hanging on by a very thin thread of grace.
For the You Capture challenge this week, Beth gave let us choose between "Green", "Hands", or "Chairs".

All great shots - I'm not much of a gardener...my husband was blessed with more of a green thumb but I certainly appreciate it.
I added my #18 to the challenge (lame right?) because I didn't want to overwhelm everyone with multiple posts today.
Beautiful!! Especially the first one. Thanks for sharing! :]
Love the 1st one! I also love fresh vegetables!
it's like you can feel how peaceful it is just through the pictures, nice work :)
Love the corn shot.
Gorgeous shots! I especially like the corn. This post is so lovely and peaceful. Makes me want to go outside and find some quiet. Thank you!
Mmm, I LOVE cilantro. And I love that shot of it!
I'm so jealous of your garden! But you made me feel a bit better about mine, because I didn't recognize my cilantro at first either.:)
Gorgeous, beautiful, green shots! You and that rooster make me laugh. :)
I'm attempting to catch up on posts, I've seen your facing myself posts and they intrigue me almost as much as they scare me, but I hope to join you on this journey. Yikes!

Lovely shots my friend. :)
I had a OT question, wondering what your Fondant frosting recipe was, I saw a while back when the bean turned one you made her that cake, and I was wondering what you used for your fondant, to compare it to my recipe..I have to make a wedding cake for someone in Aug...
Thanks A lot!!!
Love them! the 1st is my fav!
THANKS! for the recipe...and seriosuly, that woman looks amazing who writes that blog. eight kids, and fondant cakes that could win competitions. I'm inspired, and feeling a little small. haha. But that was the same recipe I have, but I loved the pics she gave, made it look a lot easier.
I love garden dirt under my nails! It makes me feel like I've done something. :)
I feel the same way about gardening...
and why DOES the dirt stay under fingernails?
And why DON'T I realize it's still there till I go into town and hand the cashier money with absolutely filthy, raggedy nails, and she gives me an odd look?
The next time we drive through ND, we are stopping at your house and you are going to teach us how to grow cilantro! We are SO jealous!!!
Amazing pics Jess!
