September 10 on 10

I slept until 8:00, which is a miracle. The boys head out the door on a grand adventure with their Daddy. Part of me wants to tag along. More of me is glad for the quiet left behind.

I log onto facebook and my thumb-sucking Bean flops into my lap. Alita mentions starting her 10 on 10 project this morning. This is the reminder I needed. This project has been calling my name for months and months. Post one picture every hour, for ten hours, on the tenth day of the month. An entire day captured. I throw my hat in the ring. Colleen puts in a request for an entire 10 on 10 of chickens. I laugh at the thought of harassing my birds all day long.

I can almost reach my old Canon Rebel without disturbing The Bean.

10:02 am
The beautiful pile in my lap.
1

11:21 am
She wants to paint. Instead I give her markers. She throws them under the table.
2

12:23 pm
Fresh milkweed for the captives.
3

1:49 pm
Naptime. I take a picture that I later decide shouldn't be shared here. What a bummer when this is such a time sensitive thing. Instead of cheating, I decide to post a blurry crop of the photo.
4

2:56 pm
Spiderwebs all over their faces. The kitties explore the barn, their new home.
5

4:14 pm
The sun is harsh, but it's a gorgeous day. The Bean is in charge of the clothespins. It works out pretty well except for when she drops the bucket. By now I'm badly missing the wider angle of view on my full frame camera. You can't see that she's standing on a stool.
6

5:35 pm
The boys are home. The Littler Brother and The Bean are fighting. And they mean it too. It's real life so I try to get a picture of them, but for several reasons it doesn't work out. The Bigger Brother has discovered something. "Mom, your chair is made out of the same stuff as my book! Look. They stick." I cheat and post two photos.
7

6:36 pm
An hour later and the war has ended. They're shrieking with joyous laughter. What a bipolar relationship these two have. I shake my head. I take one picture.
8

8:10 pm
It's already too dark out for normal shutter speeds with the capability of this camera. I remember Colleen's plea for chickens. I have an idea. The hens are going up to roost for the night. I cheat and post two photos again.
9

9:07 pm
The evening is beyond perfect. Warm. No wind. No bugs. The sky is clear and the moon bright. This calls for a tripod and an adult beverage. I shoot the moon. I fail miserably.
9:32
I admit defeat. The mosquitoes have arrived. Instead of capturing the moon I harness it's light.
10

I think that somehow, it's appropriate to be posting this on the anniversary of 9/11. Life goes on. Our world is different, but it's a new normal. In light of catastrophic events like that, the mundane boring details of a normal day become so much more precious.

I spent my few minutes of quiet time this morning catching up on your posts. Sorry I haven't commented on all of them. I love seeing your garden, how it's flourished and how the kids are enjoying it (you too).
What happened to your full-frame camera? I've got plans to get my own full-frame by about a year from now.

Love this 10 and 10 idea. I don't know if I could do that in my crazy life, but your results are amazing. I love how you chose b/w, and I'm so HAPPY that you got chicken photos in. First photo of the Bean... stunning. And who knew moonlight could be so pretty?

Two nights ago we saw the most amazing northern lights, and all I could think was I wish I had my camera but knew I couldn't begin to capture it. So many challenges, so little time!

(((hugs)))

YES! The mundane moments are miracles, too. Aren't they?! And yes, I agree that honoring the sweet little every day moments is important. It is not only living intentionally, but creatively and actively.

Of course, I love your pictures. I love that they are all in black & white as well. My favorite is your first shot and last shot, but all of them are beautiful.

PS. I really adore your chicken shot. Good call Colleen.

Oh! I love this idea! Amazing photos :) That first one is so precious! The one with the younger two is adorable! The chicken ones are awesome! And that moonlit photo is absolutely stunning. I love the light in that one :)

Well... I still like my all chicken all the time post idea, but I have to admit that your Bean is way cuter than any of your chickens, so maybe you were right after all. ;)
LOVE the shot of the two of them laughing together. What a great catch! And the moonlight is awesome.
My 10 on 10 turned into a 5 on 10. Oh, well, maybe next time...

You capture such beautiful shots. I love the ones of the kids.... that one laughing together made me smile. Is there hope for mine yet?? (They have a love/hate relationship that is a little heavy on one side... if you know what I'm saying!?!)

Oh and your kitty shot is amazing. The chicken one too! I am glad you jumped in and got 'er done ;D

What an amazing recap of your day. You have a way of turning an ordinary moment into a work of art. I'm inspired to write it down on my calendar for October, but I don't know if I'll actually do it. Maybe. I love that you chose to do them all in black and white. That last shot of the trike in the moonlight is just wow!!

I said it before, and I'll say it again: every time I visit your blog I just start laughing my head off! It's your writing paired with your kids' antics! Oh to be a fly on the wall...

That tricycle moon shot is BEYOND, and your little Bean??!! SO stinkin' cute!! She looks so pretty in that first shot. LOVE your 10 on 10! ♥

LOL! Just saw your tag to this post "rockin' the Rebel" - HA! I think I missed the full story. I know you were having issues with your other camera. did you send it in for a "checkup", or back altogether?

The pile in your lap - yes, she is beautiful, as is the photo of her.

Love how they are all in b&w.

And I agree with your 9/11 recap at the end.
