Goodbye green

It was as destructive as it was beautiful.

frozen ivy

That second night took just about everything, even most of the poor pitiful pumpkin plant that was carefully tucked underneath a thick comforter. I'm guessing the corral hit at least 20 F, if not colder. Micro-climates and all, that's simply too cold.

We're more or less done with the growing. For this year.

Now it officially looks like autumn. Tomorrow I'll gladly admit that this is, truly, the most fantastic time of year.

The colors. The light. I'll love it. Tomorrow.

But right now, I'd like to have a moment of silence for my poor sad garden.

Or not?

*sigh*

The colors.

The kinders don't seem too worried about the lack of green.

We've been busy:

a. Continuing to pick sweet corn. Er... popcorn. She'll figure it out someday. And no, it doesn't look like it will be mature enough to actually pop. But I could be wrong.

I'll spare you the picture where she spit it all over.

b. Swatting at the immature giants. They're now bending low to the earth.

c. Scrounging up a very few red tomatoes underneath 8 foot tall weeds, you know... before the chickens get them first.

KinderGARDENS - what week is it anyway? I'm pretty sure Kirsten is the only one keeping track at this point.

Oh I hope you will love fall...tomorrow. I know you will. These photos are wonderful. Love your photos of your little one.

I swoon over your pictures. Especially the one of your Bean. The kids certainly don't think your garden is poor and sad. :)

I'm trying to embrace fall as well - it is my favorite season, after all. This morning the air is thick with fog - it's so beautiful (as long as it burns off before I have to drive anywhere...).

P.S. Week 20. I think. ;)

Oh Jess. So sorry. What a tough year. Our garden would have been history, too, if it had been out in the back acres of our property (where my husband wanted to put it.) I seem to have stumbled upon a slightly warmer than the rest of the yard micro-climate where my garden is nestled right now.

Your children are simply beautiful. Their little faces just glow. Love the Bean munching on popcorn.

And it is the most fantastic time of the year - even if it is a bit more bittersweet this year after such a challenging growing season.

There's always next year....

It seems too early for fall! We've had a couple nights of heavy frost that seems to be killing everything except for the spring flowers we planted late. Very weird. But the good thing about fall and winter here are the sunrises. For some reason, they're not as spectacular in summer... also way too early for me to catch them on camera.

Love the Bean in these photos. She has a way in front of the lens!

LOVED your comment Kelly! I wish blogger had the option to edit comments. I removed it because of the last name you inadvertently mentioned! :) Yes, those legs!

Love the photos! Especially the selfie. So sorry about your garden. Fall does have it's perks, though.

Yes, the fog...
We haven't frozen yet, but the cool nights really put a damper on ripening veggies.
I soooo know the 8foot weed covering EVERYTHING dilemma!! Smile!

You know, two nights ago, my boys came in from walking the dog and said "Wow! That frost is so cold through our rubber boots!"

And I said FROST?!?? I had no idea there was even a warning out for that night.

Sigh.

There goes the peppers... At least I still have apples... ;)

And LOVE the shot of the kids in front of the corn. :D And Bean's gorgeous eyes.

Oh, what a bummer that the frost came! But what beautiful captures! I love those little red boots, and the delicious looking corn.
