Sweet corn

Our evenings have a bit of that autumn chill to them. Already. But our days still feel like summer. It's not over yet. And this in-between time? It's sweet corn and raspberry season.

"Mommy, when I saw that corn... I was very very very excited."

Hmmm... could have fooled me.

And The Little Bean obviously didn't understand what going out to pick corn meant.

"Is food! Is food? Is it? MOMMY! Is food!"

And...

"It's too hot out here Mom. I'm leaving."

Despite the heat of the moment, the beggar had to be fed.

Immediately upon being picked, sweet corn starts to convert it's sugars to starch. There is nothing like shucking freshly harvested corn, and tossing it into a waiting pot of boiling water in the house only minutes later.

Actually, grilling is better, but I just didn't have the energy for something that complex today.

We rushed back to the house with our basket of golden treasure. Rushed being a relative term when you have help like this.

The boys wait all year for this.

I'm pretty sure their sister now agrees.

We finished off our meal by foraging through our raspberry patch. Everyone found a handful, even the dog. But the big raspberry harvest is yet to come. I'm hoping for enough to freeze, and it looks like there will be.

Oooh that corn looks good! Great pictures, loved the mix of colour and B&W. Please allow me to enjoy your raspberries vicariously, as the heat as ensured all of mine dried up ;)

I love that you captured the steam coming off of the cooked corn. Great photos!

Yum! We just went to our local farm and got 2 bushels of corn to process for the winter and had leftovers to eat, and eat and eat for dinner that day...

The few ears that missed the freezer have now been turned into corn chowder for lunch- Is it 12:00 yet??!!!!

Loved this look into your every day life. Felt like I was sitting at the table with you, maybe listening to a discourse on the exact chemical process of the sugar to starch conversion.

We are feasting on sweet corn every night right now! Love how you captured the perfect summer moment!

Have you ever microwaved your corn? We do it so we don't have the big pot of boiling water.

We are growing strawberry popcorn. I am not sure if we are supposed to leave it on the stalk till fall or not.

Your corn is beautiful! I absolutely love the b&w that captured the white steam rising.

I can just taste it...

Too bad most of my household is allergic to corn... I do miss that first cob!

And your raspberries are gorgeous.

That corn looks lovely. I have never been fortunate enough to eat sweet corn that is THAT fresh. I can only imagine how fabulous. I'm sure you have tons of tomatoes left... ever make corn and black bean salsa? YUM. Those berries look good, too. I'm in awe of that much food for the picking in your own back yard.
