Tapatoes

The week 11 KinderGARDEN assignment was to capture macro (close-up) images of the garden. I don't have a macro lens, but I do know a few tricks.

We're having a blast growin' baby birds.

This year's crop of dragonflies was incredible.

On our cranberry bush? We found ants tending herds of aphids. Great science lesson right there. And then we blasted them with soapy water. Darn aphids.

This is all so confusing for me. KinderSWAMPS, KinderCRITTERS...

Let me try again. The KinderGARDEN:

Tomatoes and potatoes. You'd be very entertained to hear the little brother talk about them.

"Mommy, do tomatoes grow underneath the ground?"

"Ummm... the roots do.

"MOM. Tomatoes grow under the ground."

"Sure! The ROOTS grow underneath the ground."

"No."

"You mean potatoes?"

"Yeah! Tapatoes!"

"Right."

Moving along...

It looks like we are gonna have an insane amount of raspberries. Finally.

But only three apples, which is a whole lot better than last year. How to split three apples peacefully among a five-person family, that is what we have yet to figure out.

Remember when you tied a fly to a stand of hair and we watched it fly around in circles? When I saw your dragonfly picture, I thought of that and "Only Jess would be able to capture a bug as amazing as that!" The raspberry...ugh, amazing!! The conversation with little brother is ADORABLE!! LOVE THIS!

ooo, teach me your tricks! i don't have a macro lens, either.

love your pics...they are all so deliciously beautiful (well, okay, the aphid one isn't really all that delicious, but it's still cool).

what kind of apple trees do you have?

may you be blessed with buckets of tapatoes! and tomatoes.

Ha ha Kelly! That was my long strand of hair, but it was one of our Dads' cousins that nabbed the fly and tied it on. I SO REMEMBER THAT!!! LOL!

The apple thing cracks me up. :D That raspberry shot blows me away!

Those un-macro macros are absolutely amazing! I don't know how you did it without a macro lens!

Okay, so you must do a quick blog post on your tricks! I don't have a macro lens, and I struggled to get super close (it just wouldn't focus, no matter what lens I used). So share those tricks with us, okay??? Beautiful, beautiful photos. I love the dragonfly!

Tying hair to flies? And people think I have a strange family. ; )

3 apples! Yay! We had 2....one fell off. *sigh*

Funny post, Jess. I love your fresh and humorous look at what could become just another KinderGardens post.

Soooo! funny! The raspberry made me think of a wedding photo all posed there against an old barn. The raspberry all fresh and perfect and the wood all weathered! Ha Ha- made me laugh!
I have an idea for you about the apples-- make an apple-raspberry pie, then everyone gets some!
Beautiful critter shots and love the kiddy conversation. You will be so glad you recorded that when he's older!

Beautiful critter (and garden) captures. Love the “face” on the dragonfly! And the beautiful purple blossoms too!
