I have absolutely no clue where on earth he gets these ideas.
*cough*
I don't have a speedlight.
When he agreed to help by taking some pictures today, his excitement very quickly turned to panic. "Mommy! I don't know how to use that camera!"
"I made it easy for you. I turned this dial to automatic. All you have to do is peek through the window and push this button." Then I showed him how to hold the big camera in his small hands.
"WOW! Thanks for teaching me how to take pictures Mom!"
And then I practiced the relaxation techniques that I learned in the childbirth class I took exactly seven years ago. Although the camera in his hands may have been a beat-up second-hand malfunctioning entry level dSLR... I do not have any cheap lenses in my camera bag.
The safety lesson was longer than the photography lesson. We put the camera strap around his neck as insurance.
I took pictures of the photographer. The rest are his. He's shooting a gripped Canon XTi with a 50mm f/1.4 lens.

Asparagus:

Raspberries:

Popcorn maze:
I moaned about the fact that a number of the popcorn plants didn't grow. His perspective? "But LOOK at how many of them DID GROW!"

Flowers waiting for a real flower bed, enduring too much direct sun:

"I GOT YOU MOM!"

I'm dressed like a vampire because I sunburn faster than a naked hen.
Onions and Beets:

Garlic:

Ummm...
"Hey kiddo, you know those are weeds. Right?"
"No they aren't."
"Yes they are."
"No they aren't!"

"Yes they are. I skipped that part when I weeded. Now they're really tall."
"Oh."

Flowers that he chose, in the swingset:

Strawberries hanging out in the swingset:
His daddy built a new raised bed and we will plant these today!

This KinderGARDEN update has been brought to you by the letter E, and the number 7. Well, almost seven.

thru the eyes of a very sweet child......perfect!!
okay, when did he grow up? I love this post!
I'm kinda giggling over here because I plan to do something very similar next month when we keep our niece for the weekend. She's totally getting a photography lesson!
I would love to see his Lego cameras! And batteries that last a hundred years - yes please! So cute that he uses all those photography terms....even hot shoe!
Dressed like a vampire..... haha....I think you look a little better than that. ; )
Good for you.....I was half thinking you might not do this assignment with your gear.
What a great photography session with your plumber! Your garden is looking good too!
These are too sweet! I love the ones of him contemplating his next photo and he did a great job! I'm hoping one or both of my boys will take the photography class offered at their school.
adorable! i love how involved with FOOD he is. i just talked to my brother today about considering reading a book (and by "talked to him about it," i do mean "bribed him with a $50 amazon gift card") that would help him to learn more about the food he puts in his body (mostly processed).
i'd do almost anything for him to stay at a house like yours for a few months! your kids are blessed.
lovelovelovelovelovelove LOVE this post. Love.
I'm with Cassie - I want pics of his Lego camera!
Too cute for words! Following in the steps of mommy. Be careful he doesn't see that camera as "his" now. Not that I'm talking from experience. Nuh-uh! ;)
Oh how cool to have him following in your footsteps!!!!
Is he selling those batteries yet? I'd take some for sure!
Love his viewpoint! And you are exceptionally brave to let him have his adventure with your 50mm 1.4! :)
Love the vampire outfit! Cute post!
Love this post! Even the photo of the weeds. I cannot wait to see how the popcorn maze turns out.
He's got several good shots in there-taking after Mom. I love the photos you took of him-he looks so intent on doing a great job.
Beautiful! Nice you have 2 cameras!
What a cute kid! And I'm still cracking up about the letter E and number 7 -too funny!
Awww! He's got a good eye. :)
Dressed like a vampire... XD
And your garden looks like it's doing really well! Glad it's going to be warm till November... ;)
Those breathing techniques come in handy far more often than you'd think. You're a good mom to share like that. :)
He did a good job with the pictures. It's always fun to see through their eyes.
I haven't stopped by to say hi in a while, so I thought I would.
Hi!
How have you been? You are one brave Mama. But I always feel like I'm saying that to you!
You inspire me to let go!
p.s. happy birthday, little man!!
Loved seeing your garden through your son's eyes!
So fun!! I love handing my smaller camera over to the boys. It's always interesting to see their shots and point of view :) His photos are pretty great.
ps. your sunburn comment made me giggle :)
This is so awesome! I can't wait until my kids are big enough to hand over the camera. You have quite the little photographer! :)
That is so cool he has an interest in photography AND you let him use your cool camera! :) He did an excellent job!
