It feels cold in the house, I was bad and turned the furnace up. My excuse? If Mama is cold the babies must be cold too. I'll have to remember to turn it back down in a minute or two. The grass is white. October is half-over and this is only our second good frost. I'm looking forward to my hot soup.

{that isn't a horse, it's our horse-sized dog}
All of the bowls are dirty. Every last one. I didn't get the dishes done last night because I was looking at cameras on ebay. Twenty minutes turned into two hours. Ebay makes me nervous.
I put my soup in a mug. That should work. Wrong. Apparently soup heats differently in the microwave when it's in a mug. Another mess.
But all is not lost and I sit down with my half-mug of soup. The little Bean circles me like a shark, saying "Hot! Hot! Hot!". The hair clip that she begged for before she dumped Cheerios all over the floor is that close to freedom. I cringe because it looks painful hanging there by only a few hairs. But she's happy.
I'm suddenly perplexed at the orange things floating in my soup. They almost look like bits of carrot, but I didn't put carrots in this soup. Yes, they're definitely carrots. This is not my Knoepfle Soup. Oh, yay. This is the Potato Soup I made over two weeks ago. It doesn't look funky. It doesn't smell odd. I put it down and get a new mug. My fridge is big but it's not that big. Now where is my Knoepfle Soup?

The Bean is shrieking like a trapped weasel. It's a muffled, far-away sounding scream. And being her mother I know exactly what the deal is. She managed to wiggle her way underneath the fitted sheet on her Mommy and Daddy's bed. Again. You know, the fitted sheet that is underneath the other sheet, that is underneath a blanket and a comforter. And on top? Her brother is jumping on her.
I rescue her, kick them both out of the bedroom and sit down with my soup because I have got to write this all down. Because this is my life... on a calm morning. And I want to remember these ordinary mundane details too, not just the more dramatic ones I have recorded here.

Looking at cameras, eh? ;) I get sucked into that now and again, too.
Your dog *does* look like a horse in that picture!! :D
Warm soup on a cold day. Mmmm.
How does the Bean get in there?? What a kid. :D
Wow. Now THAT sounds like an adventure. You're right about enjoying the craziness while you can.
love it!
I love the image of the bean being trapped by a fitted sheet! Too funny! Or...maybe not so much for her! x
First, glad you cleared up the back ground horse, errr, dog :) At first appearance, it was a horse, for me.
I always enjoy my visit with you, Jess. So real, so true...a momma's life and yes, we do...really do, want to have days like these recorded...the simplest of days, because, well, simply because they matter ♥
Oh, yes...and remember that we, too, find that a dreamy ten minutes on the internet turns into a reality of one or more hours ;)
Holy, huge dog batman!
Um cheerio days are behind me. Thankfully, but I totally remember them. Oh do I remember them.
My kiddos do the same thing with the comforter/sheet/fitted sheet. Kiddos are weird!!! Ha.
I had a "soup incident" today as well... My lunch was supposed to be mushroom leek soup. Supposed to, because apparently the container wasn't closed all the way and the soup leaked out into my lunch bag. But at least now I know the bag is leak proof...
The fitted sheet thing cracks me up because thats exactly what my toddler does too. It astounds me that I can now differentiate between the "dang it, I trapped myself under the fitted sheet" whine and the "dang it, I took off all my clothes and now I'm cold" whine. Both of which happen pretty much daily.
Your soup sounds yummy. Can you post the recipe?
What a lovely post to read back on. I love the simplicity of it. Love the family. Love the horse dog. Great post!
Okay, I really thought that WAS a horse on first glance! I love this post. And that last photo is STUN-NING! Also? I love ebay. {mostly}
So funny. You have an entertaining life. i like how you're not stressing over the cheerios dumped on the floor. You know, I had a cat that would crawl under the sheets like that and sprawl herself out so flat I never saw her... and I sat on her. Yes, it happened more than once. You'd have thought one of us would have learned. :D
Happy days!
Hahaha! Crazy, simple, ordinary - practically sacred every day life! And like everyone else, at first glance I did think you dog was a horse! Funny...thanks for clarifying!
I can so relate!! I hope you don't have any ill after effects from the two week old potato soup :-)
I lose time on the computer as well, but ebay makes me a little nervous, too!
That is funny. really funny. It really sounds like my mornings. Minus the farm, and soup. Pregnant people cannot eat soup for breakfast. it makes them throw up.
So i stick to bannanas or something safe. This is the life isn't it? But seriously, we wouldn't trade it for the world, would we? Joy in chaos. Thats what we've got my friend. And it's great.
It's good to remember the everyday things. Soup sounds like a really good idea right about now. Maybe I'll have some right after I finish drinking my tea.
And here I thought MY life was nuts! HA! :-) Have a great week!
AHHH a mother's days! They can be pretty crazy and mundane all at the same time! Loved this post!
great post. love your horse dog!
I totally thought that was a horse!
