Versatile dog house

Sooner or later, I knew it was going to happen.

I found a handsome cat sitting on an egg in a doghouse.

This cat.

The egg was a beautiful big warm brown thing.

Did he lay it? Was he babysitting? Perhaps paying penance for all the times he has punched hens while he waits, grumpy, for his breakfast in the morning? Or maybe he was just using it as a heating pad?

We prefer multi-use items around here, and the dog house doesn't disappoint. It has a thick blanket of straw with an obvious cat-shaped depression. All it takes is a scrap of wood across the door to make a great rooster isolation chamber. My little rebels Nickel and Cheddar have a bad habit of leaving their eggs there, but not at the same time. Oh, no no no no. Two hens in the dog house at once is a very bad thing, you can hear them clear back at the house. And sometimes, sometimes just for fun, even when it isn't forty below zero, the dog house contains a cat warmer.

Do you have a cat warmer?

We do.

We have multi-purpose animals as well.

Yes I'm posting old pictures. I'm flustered and frustrated because the old camera is front-focusing, just enough to really screw everything up. I've suspected it for a few weeks but I've been in denial. I'm really really good at that. I was in denial about the Bean until a full day after she'd been born. Or possibly longer.

What's that? There are pink shoes in my house?

I'm going to try cleaning the camera's sensor. All by myself. Yes, I'm terrified, thanks for asking. I might need an adult beverage to calm my nerves first.

I may never post another photograph online again. Perhaps no one will notice.

It is the camera body, not the lenses. I was fairly certain of this because of a little experiment I did the other day with a tape measure and a dragonfly. I didn't need the dragonfly, but I was glad it came to the party because a dragonfly can only make your day better.

I have no idea if it was a boy or a girl. I don't suppose it matters.

That was the only shot that was even close. Don't ask how many I took.

It takes real talent to hold your camera steady for a focus test when a five ton hippopotamus formerly named "big dumb cat" is bumping up against you.

But all I really know is my camera has crapped out on me and my cat laid an egg in the dog house.

Lord have mercy on us all.

You've kept me smiling through the entire post, once again, Jess. You are such a joy to visit!!

{I agree with you about the dragonfly, too}

Wow, that's a talent my childhood kitties never had!! What a bummer about your camera :( I hope the cleaning helps! Oh, and how lucky you were with the dragonfly!!!

I, too, live in fear of camera sensor cleaning! Know what I'd try first, if you haven't already? If your camera has one. There's a little wheel on my Canon Rebel by the viewfinder called a diopter adjustment (it's either called that or that is just what it does). If that gets turned, what looks in focus to you may not look in focus to your camera. I've seen how tos for correcting that. You might want to Google that one.

OK, that first picture needs to be hanging on your WALL! I love it!!!! Wow, what a bummer about your camera! I've never tried cleaning my sensor, heck I don't even know where my sensor is. Really. I'm not good with "parts." And yes, we would notice if you didn't post - your posts but a giantic smile on my face in the mornings! :-) Much needed!

Nope, it isn't the diopter. Manual focus still works great, it's the auto focus that's screwed up.

Hope your cleaning goes okay.

Love your kitty pics! And the dog made me laugh. Out loud. Kids think I'm crazy. Thanks for that. :P

The dragonfly pic is really cool, too.

Well, you're not allowed to quit posting photos so you better get that darn thing fixed...FAST! I love your photography!! Better wait until after its fixed for the beverage though. ;)

And the cat, dog, egg thing....a big pat on the back to all the critters living on your farm. Way to multitask!

*Loved* the cat picture!

We don't have a cat warmer, unfortunately. We have a cat who rolls the eggs out of the nest box and out of the door to break them so she can eat them. I don't think that counts.

Oh Jess, so sorry about your camera. That would make me sick. Hope you get it fixed...I'm rootin' for you.

Of course we would notice if you didn't post another picture online again. I'm sad every day that I don't get to see another one of your pictures!

Oh this cracked me up! You have quite the multi-tasking family there! I so jealous of the egg laying kitty or should I say Bob would be jealous!

Oh, no... not your camera! Bummer.

It seems that a goose that lays a golden egg would be better than a cat that lays regular old eggs, but I guess you take what you can get. ;)

That sucks! I was reading through this post and thinking...man I'm sleepy - perhaps I should have an adult beverage. Okay, that was random. Just stopping by to say hello.

Well, your camera may be front focusing, but the photos still look great! Let's just say I recently got mine back from the repair shop. AFTER I tried to clean it myself! So if you do it, I want a step by step tutorial. With photos, of course! :)
