I could tell you about lying underneath my tripod on our gravel road, holding my breath so as not to bump my camera during a long exposure... how the
kittens came racing across my legs ripping into my jeans with their sharp claws... that my still body wasn't nearly exciting enough so they launched themselves off my knees and hung on the joints of my tripod like Christmas ornaments. I could tell you about the dog that reeked of skunk. Or how I suddenly realized
Marshall was there when his whiskers touched my nose from the left, while one kitten sat on my chest and the other kitten stuck his whiskers on my nose from the opposite side. I could tell you how the big cat doesn't always get along with those little hooligans when his personal space is violated, and that I was honestly more worried about my camera being jostled than my face being in the middle of a potential kitty fist-fight.
Or... I could let the images speak for themselves.

It's alive, swirling and changing constantly. Can you see the difference between those last two? (besides the meteor or whatever I caught flying through the second one)
After seeing the
Planetary Kp-index and the
Space weather prediction, and not having seen the aurora in 14 years, I was hoping for a little more of a show. The last one I saw was so spectacular, maybe nothing can compare.
Bizarre, I know, that I wouldn't have seen something sooner for all the odd hours I'm up with my insomniac kids.
We were right on the edge. So close to the good stuff. Just a tease, really.

awesome! i had no idea!
WOW. No hope of seeing something like that here. There are advantages to living further north! :)
(had to laugh at the kitties - i can totally picture it)
Oh.my.word! You lucky lucky girl! Those are stunning! The kitten thing is super funny though! Our kittens try to scale everything under the sun, too, even door frames. And our legs as we walk by. Seriously, though, those images are amazing! And how awesome that you also just happened to catch the shooting star!? I'm so jealous right now! ;)
I seriously am in envious state of mind right now. I LLLLLOOOOOOVVVVEEE these pictures.
I dragged my laptop just now to show my hubby. He knows you as mousicle. {he loved that post, which speaks volumes because he isn't a blog reader at all}
xo!
And in the middle of all that chaos - you still got some amazing shots. LOVE the light show. thanks for sharing ;D
Those. are. STUNNING!
Wow.
Jealous. It's raining here. ;)
I'm super impressed! Those are amazing. Makes me almost wish I live in the country. Town lights suck. And not being able to go off on my own in the middle of the night to set up a tripod in a field to take night photos also sucks. BUT I can live vicariously through your night photos. ;) Way to rock it!
Wow, that's amazing. I've never seen anything like that, so even being on the edge of the show would have been magic. And I bet the kittens enjoyed it, too. =>
I don't know which I liked more, your gorgeous pictures or your kitten struggles. What a picture you must have made!
Still..that's really neat. I've never seen one before...other than pictures.
WOW! Absolutely beautiful shots.
gorgeous shots! definitely worth being hassled by kittens for.
Phenomenal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All my life I have wanted to not only see this in person but capture it - BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!! Guess I really need to make a trip next time. :)
well, if it's any comfort the fact that you were able to capture the event means I was able to experience it too!!! Thanks!!- so very amazing!!!!
Breathtaking!
So cool! I looked and didn't see much the first nights they were talking about this, and then I forgot to look for them in the later nights. At least I can live vicariously through you a bit and see these cool images. Thank you!
Oh my goodness....WOWEEE! These shots are unreal! I was seriously just talking to the hubs about why we never see stars in the sky; not even on clear nights. He said it's because we live in the city. Um... I didn't know Lincoln NE was the city. But I digress.
Kittens hanging off the tripod? I'm dying!!!!! Have I mentioned every time I pop over to your blog, I leave laughing? :-)
Stunning! I love that you captured the show!
WOW those are awesome - very cool. I've always wanted to see the northern lights!
Okay, so I thinked we've talked enough about these photos and the crazy settings you used. They are stunning.
*insert applause*
And I'm curious again, just how often do you check the space weather prediction?
haha! And I just looked down! You used this for You Capture! I bet you were the only one with an Aurora.
Wow these are amazing photos!
