Valuable lessons

She was searching for lipstick. I told her I thought I had one somewhere... maybe it was in the bathroom, or a coat pocket, or a camera bag. After we searched, and searched, and searched, I re-thought what I had previously thought. Then I thought perhaps I had thrown that one tube of lipstick away. Then I tried to remember the last time I might have used it. Meanwhile she continued to search for it.

"Mom, what's this?"

It was a can of shaving cream. Half-empty. Almost as old as she is.

The way I saw it, there was only one thing to do.

Four minutes is about how long it took me to post that picture on facebook, in the other room, by the way. Meanwhile, a couple of valuable lessons were simmering.

Being the Swedish Chef is good, but there's always more imagination to be had. Fun is good, but more fun is better. Pretend bugs leaving their footprints all over the table is good, but bugs walk on the walls too, so obviously that's better.

Lesson number one: Don't turn your back on the shaving cream.

shaving cream II

Lesson number two: Shaving cream will take the finish right off the table.

You know, lesson #2 could be very valuable if you decide to refinish furniture in the future. I've always slaved away with mineral spirits/denatured alcohol. Shaving cream would be so much more fun.

Lesson #2 is one I need... I'm looking for something to help me refinish the dining room table... maybe this will help me prep it!

So cute, though. Very adorable she is. :)

That looks like you made a wonderful memory for your daughter... Probably not as much for you, given the table situation. ;-)

Oh no! The poor table! Love the images though. :-)

So, if it took the finish off the table.. did it also take the paint off the wall? ;)

I still think that second one is awesome. And should be prominently featured on her wedding day. ;)

Yikes! Lesson #2 would make me sick... Your daughter is such a cutie, though and she looked like she thoroughly enjoyed her time with the shaving cream.

Adorable! Shaving cream was always a favorite activity at the head start centers. Especially when it had a little food coloring in it.

I used to use this trick in kindergarten to clean their desks every week. I was getting a chore done and the kids were practicing their letters- win win for about 3 minutes at least ;)
